HARDEE COUNTY, Fla. 鈥?Hardee County and areas along the Peace River felt the impacts of Hurricane Ian. N
stanley cup ow six months later, the community is rebuilding, but there are some areas still struggling to get back to normal. We were in Hardee County in the hours and days following Hurricane Ian and recently traveled back and toured the area with Hardee County Sheriff Vent Crawford.Sheriff Crawford said they re doing unbelievably well. But recovery is still in the process for displaced people, added Sheriff Crawford.Crawford said flooding was a big issue in the county. It caused damage to the sheriffs office, and if the Peace River did not recede on the day and hour it did, deputies were getting ready to evacuate hundreds of inmates from the jail.During our first trip to Hardee County following Hurricane Ian, we met Vicky Sanchez. Her home near the Peace River flooded, and the contents inside were mostly destroyed, except for some items in plastic bags. Coming through the back, the water was over my knee. I don t know how to describe it, said Sanchez. It hurts that everything was wiped out from under your feet in a matter of a night. Now six months later, we went back to Vickys neighborhood. PORT RICHEY, Fla- 鈥?Hundreds of Pasco County seniors got their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Thursday, as the Pasco County Department of Health works to vaccinate everyone 65 and older who wants the vaccine.Today was day
stanley cup one, and the National Guard helped the health department vaccinate around 500 seniors on a registration-only basis. It was a sigh of relief for many seniors. This is the first step, and I believe that we will have a better new year, and we will get rid of this as a crisis, said Kathleen Ackley, who received her COVID-19 vaccine from the Pasco County health department on Thursday. The health department is currently working with just 3,500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, distributing the majority of those to seniors. It seems daunting when you look at it, 130,000, but if we take it in increments of 3,500 at a time, then I think its more manageable, said Mike Napier, a health officer with the Pasco County Department of Health.Slots for both Thursday and Saturday quickly filled up.Sunday s slots open for booking on Friday morning at 8 a.m.But theyre urging people to check the site often, in case theyre able to add more reservation slots, which the health department is hoping to do for both Saturday and Sunday. The department is also working to secure additional doses of the vaccine,
