จีนพบผู้เสียชีวิตจากเหตุน้ำท่วมใหญ่เมื่อเดือนกรกฎาคมเพิ่ม ทำให้ยอดผู้เสียชีวิตทะลุ 300 ศพแล้ว ขณะที่ยังมีผู้สูญหายอีกกว่า 50 ราย
สำนักข่าว บีบีซี รายงานในวันจันทร์ที่ 2 ส.ค. 2564 ว่า จำนวนผู้เสียชีวิตจากเหตุน้ำท่วมรุนแรงเพราะฝนตกหนักในมณฑลเหอหนาน ของประเทศจีน ซึ่งเกิดขึ้นช่วงปลายเดือนกรกฎาคมที่ผ่านมา เพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 302 ศพแล้ว ขณะที่มีผู้สูญหายอีกประมาณ 50 ราย ประชาชนเกือบ 13 ล้านคนได้รับผลกระทบ และบ้านเรือนได้รับความเสียหายกว่า 9,000 หลัง
ผู้เสียชีวิตส่วนใหญ่อยู่ในเมืองเจิ้งโจว เมืองเอกของมณฑลเหอหนาน ซึ่งเผชิญฝนตกหนักประมาณน้ำเท่ากับ 1 ปีภายในระยะเวลาเพียง 3 วัน จนกระแสน้ำไหลเข้าท่วมระบบรถไฟใต้ดิน และพัดพายานพาหนะไปเป็นจำนวนมาก
เมื่อวันจันทร์ นาง โฮ่ว หง นายกเทศมนตรีเมืองเจิ้งโจว ยืนยันในงานแถลงข่าวว่า พบศพผู้เสียชีวิตเพิ่มอีก 39 ราย ภายในลานจอดรถใต้ดินแห่งหนึ่ง ขณะที่อีก 14 รายเสียชีวิตที่ระบบรถไฟใต้ดินเส้นทางที่ 5 ซึ่งถูกน้ำท่วม ทำให้ยอดผู้เสียชีวิตในเมืองแห่งนี้เพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 292 ศพแล้ว
ทั้งนี้ ฝนที่ตกลงมาอย่างหนัก ยังทำให้เขื่อนและอ่างเก็บน้ำหลายแห่งในมณฑลเหอหนานมีระดับน้ำสูงขึ้นจนเกินระดับอันตราย ขณะที่ทหารถูกส่งไปรับมือเหตุน้ำล้นตลิ่งจากแม่น้ำหลายสาย.
